About

A chart of records, and a test that sits on the same square.

Uncanted is a political compass test and a set of charts. The test takes about eight minutes. The charts place world leaders, U.S. presidents, former members of Congress, and the current House and Senate on the same two axes: economics, and authority versus liberty. The point of the site is to show the distance between a reader’s answers and the public record, without turning that distance into a party lecture.

Uncanted is an independent project. It is not a party committee, a campaign, or a newsroom. The site exists because the usual quiz tells you which party you match and then stops. A party label is a color. It is not a place. A Republican can sit left of a Democrat on economics. A Democrat can sit toward authority. Uncanted keeps the color and the place separate so a reader can see that for themselves.

The charts are free to look at. The written pages about how the dots were placed are free to read. A reader’s own point is separate from those public charts. The first finished quiz on an account is what counts toward a country average. An additional quiz on the same account does not add another point. None of that is a poll of the United States, and the site does not pretend that it is.

Uncanted is not the trademarked Political Compass test. It does not claim that two people near each other have the same morals. Extremes stay on the map as the ends of the scale. They are not recommendations. A high similarity is not a moral likeness, and a nearby name is not a prediction of how anyone would vote.

Corrections to a record, a broken page, or a question about the advertising on the site can be sent to the address on the contact page. The person who reads that mail is the same person who made the site.

The method is written out on the methodology page. The atlases are the charts. The articles are the longer explanations. Questions about a record or about the ads go to the contact page.
